Join / Membership

SDS offers four types of membership, which can be paid for through Patreon. You can pay monthly or annually. For annual payments, you benefit from a discount.

Types of membership:

Low Income Membership – $5 / month (or equivalent, if you are paying from outside of the US)

Low Income Membership provides access to all SDS related content for members who earn less than $30,000 annually. Please use this membership level only if you qualify. We’re committed to providing membership to everyone we can, and this level of payment only covers the administrative cost of membership.

Basic Membership – $10 / month (or equivalent, if you are paying from outside of the US)

Basic membership includes access to all archived media and online events, as well as providing support for the staff that run SDS and Disability Studies Quarterly. Please use this level if your income is between $30,000 – $75,000 annually.

Sustaining Membership – $15 / month (or equivalent, if you are paying from outside of the US)

Sustaining membership includes access to all archived media and online events, as well as providing support for the staff that run SDS and Disability Studies Quarterly. Sustaining membership also supports staff for conferences and workshops. If your income is over $75,000 annually, we hope that you will register at this level to support the organization in an ongoing way.

Legacy Membership – $20 / month (or equivalent, if you are paying from outside of the US)

Legacy membership includes access to all archived media and online events, as well as providing support for the staff that run SDS and Disability Studies Quarterly. Legacy membership also supports staff for conferences and workshops. If your income is over $125,000 annually, we hope that you will register at this level to support the organization in an ongoing way.

Among other costs, your membership contributes to the running of SDS through monetary support for a number of staff associated with SDS, the online platforms we use (e.g. Zoom, the listserv, the Board’s and administrative team’s email platform, the website), fees for accessibility support, other events-related costs, and payments associated with being a nonprofit organization.

Offer SDS membership as a gift to someone else

You can pay-it-forward / offer any of the four tiers of membership as a gift to someone else for a limited or unlimited amount of time. To offer membership to Society for Disability Studies as a gift to someone else, please visit this page.

Note: While SDS is committed to making events public and accessible for all members – including free members – there are some events that are for paying members only, which are only visible with a paid membership. Additionally, archived event media are only accessible for paid members.

Thank you for your support of SDS! It helps us plan events for our members, run Disability Studies Quarterly, and plan our conference. Always know that we’re open to suggestions about what we can do as an organization to support you and our broader community.
